Touch 'n Go Adopts SMK Seri Selayang in Partnership with PINTAR Foundation

Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd (“Touch ‘n Go”) today launched its first school adoption programme, in collaboration with PINTAR Foundation, marking a significant step towards providing holistic education and uplifting students in underserved communities.

Touch ‘n Go will be adopting SMK Seri Selayang for 3 years as part of its community outreach initiative. The school adoption programme is designed to complement traditional classroom learning, with strong emphasis on developing essential life skills. The programme will offer students the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and other crucial skills necessary for personal and professional growth. By integrating these components, the initiative aims to cultivate a well-rounded educational experience that will prepare the students for future challenges and opportunities.

Touch ‘n Go Chief Corporate Development Officer, Lum Joy Deng said that as part of Touch ‘n Go’s corporate social responsibility, the company aims to extend assistance beyond its operating location in Bangsar South. With the help of PINTAR Foundation, it identified SMK Seri Selayang as a starting point to create positive impact for its students.

“We are excited to collaborate with PINTAR Foundation to ignite the students’ interest in education by making learning more engaging and relevant to their everyday lives. We believe that by equipping students with the knowledge and skills beyond the conventional curriculum, we can help to promote non-academic excellence and motivate them to pursue their dreams. These students are the future of our society and for them to thrive, we should invest our support for their future,” said Joy.

In the first year of the programme, the students will be introduced to a comprehensive Entrepreneurship for Teens bootcamp and financial literacy workshops.  Targeted to cater to approximately 100 students per workshop / bootcamp, the modules, developed by PINTAR Foundation, are tailored to introduce entrepreneurship skills to students, as well as encourage a growth mindset, critical thinking, and practical application of knowledge, ultimately inspiring the students to expand their horizons and take an active interest in their educational journey.

PINTAR Foundation General Manager, Norzalina Masom said, “We are honoured to partner with Touch 'n Go on this important initiative. Together, we can provide the students of SMK Seri Selayang with the knowledge, tools and support they need to excel both in and out of the classroom. Our shared vision is to create a nurturing environment where every student feels valued and empowered to achieve their full potential.”

SMK Seri Selayang not only provides the regular mainstream education from Transition to Form 5, but also has an Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI) for special needs students. There are currently 13 PPKI classes complete with basic facilities, and offers skills training in Agriculture, Bread Making, and Pastry. SMK Seri Selayang also has an upper secondary vocational programme in Fashion Sewing Design for mainstream students.  The school has 102 teachers and 1711 students as of June 2024.

The adoption of SMK Seri Selayang reflects Touch 'n Go’s commitment to education, sustainable development and community empowerment, in line with its Treating People Fairly sustainability pillar. As a homegrown company operated by local talents and technology, Touch ‘n Go supports the need to invest in future generations and encourage the development of lifelong skills. Together with Pintar Foundation, it plans to adopt more schools in the future and benefit students from underserved communities through supplementary educational programmes.
